Scentsy

I have finally tried Scentsy.  Part of the reason it's taken me this long is that you can't order directly through the website.  You have to find an independent consultant and order from them, much like the way Avon or Mary Kay or Tupperware works.  But now, just recently, a woman at work has started selling Scentsy and I've finally had my chance to see what all the fuss is about.

Looking through the catalog, the one that caught my eye the most was Oats & Honey.  I thought it would be like my beloved Oatmeal, Milk & Honey soap scent.  I was so happy at the thought of having that smell in tarts.  But no, this smells NOTHING like it.  Described as 'A buttery mix of toasted oats and tupelo honey, oven-crisped with vanilla and maple,' it is more like a warm oatmeal cookie.  I do get a bit of maple yumminess when I sniff this one, and it's not a bad scent, but I was so disappointed that it wasn't anything like what I'd hoped.  It is super strong.  I melted two cubes and it was too much.  I will only do one next time.

I'd only planned on buying one pack, just so I could say I'd tried them, but when everyone was passing around the little sniffer samples, this one smelled yummy enough that I couldn't resist.  And I don't think I've seen this scent anywhere else.  It is Sweet Pea & Vanilla and is described as 'Ambiance of raspberries and sweet pea petals with vanilla.'  It is the addition of those raspberries that makes this so nice.  I really, really like this one!  Unfortunately, when I melted two cubes, I couldn't smell anything unless someone walked by and stirred up the air.  Maybe I'll try three cubes next time.

So there.  I have tried Scentsy.  And I still don't see what all the fuss is about.  I didn't find these tarts to be any better or worse than most other brands I've tried. One thing I noticed about the package was that there are eight cubes, as opposed to only six cubes in the usual clam shell packages elsewhere.  At first I was like 'Ohhhhh, well now I see why these cost so much more.'  But then I checked my Walmart packs and found that while there are only six cubes, those cubes are bigger.  A pack of Scentsy tarts is 2.6 oz for $5.00 plus shipping.  A pack of Walmart tarts is 2.5 oz for $2.00.  So Scentsty's .1 oz difference is worth three extra dollars plus shipping?  No.

I've also heard time and time again that Scentsy products only work with other Scentsy products.  Example, their tarts will only melt in their warmer and only their replacement bulbs will work.  I don't believe this to be true.  I think these are selling points that fool uninformed customers, to keep them coming back.

But anyway, Scentsy does have several other products besides just tarts.  They have three sizes of warmers.  They have room sprays, car fresheners, travel tins, and they have even branched out to bath and body products.   Wish I could see the ingredients on their website but they don't list them anywhere.  I am not against using their tarts and would gladly buy more if I saw some unique scent that I couldn't get anywhere else.  And I'm very curious about those bath and body products!  But I also know I can get the same types of products cheaper and more easily elsewhere.

I also wish I knew a different seller.

So what do you think of Scentsy?  Have you tried them?  If you swear by them, have you ever tried anything else to be able to compare?  I'm very curious about why people love their Scensty so much.

  1. I do like Scentsy, my Sister got me hooked on it but lately I have gotten back into buying and enjoying candles.

Scentsy is expensive and I have just become a tad bored with it for now.

  2. "Scentsy is expensive"
Exactly. There are SO many other more affordable options that are just as good or better.

I do not like Yankee's tarts though. They have always been too weak for my liking.
