Angels - Robbie Williams

It seems like I have posted this before, but when I searched I could not find it.  Oh well, even if I have, it's good enough to do it again.

The song Angels, by Robbie Williams, was released in December 1997 but it wasn't until November 1999 that I got hooked on it.  We were in Germany . . . no, actually it was Switzerland that night . . . and were watching some MTV Europe Awards pre-show thing on TV at our hotel.  Robbie was nominated for something that year and there was a portion of the show with interview and music clips from him.  One of the things they showed was him talking about some big concert he'd done, and how he'd just been so overwhelmed by the way the audience took over singing Angels.  They showed a clip of the performance.  It looked like he was teary eyed at the concert and if I remember correctly it looked like he was teary eyed in the interview while talking about it.  Then they played the actual video/song and that was it, I was in love.

I have two versions of this song in mp3 format.  One is the original studio version, and the other is a live version.  I prefer the live one because of the way the audience sings, and the way he just lets them.  I'm going to post two video here . . . the original, and a live version.  (I have never been able to find THE same live version that I saw on TV that night.  *sigh*)

I used to think Robbie Williams was a rather ugly egomaniac.  These days, I think there is a certain hotness.  He has his moments in the video above, but in the video below I love his cuteness at 2:34 and again at about 2:44.

Ok, the videos were fun but it's the song that I love, so I'll include the lyrics too . . .

Angels
I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate
And do they know
The places where we go
When we're grey and old
'Cause I have been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold
So when I'm lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel the love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection

A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call, she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

When I'm feeling weak

And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above
And I know I'll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones
And when love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection

A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call, she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection

A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call, she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

I wish I knew how to attach an mp3 to this post because the live version I have is by far the best that I've come across for how much the audience sings.

So yeah, I've loved this song for years and I'm loving it again right now.  And it doesn't help that I'm in angel loving phase with the books I've been reading lately ... LOL

Do YOU like this song?  I know several other people have done it over the years but I don't even listen to anyone's version but Robbie's.  *sighs and plays the song again*
