The Melting Fairy - January Box!

It's Melting Fairy time!  After getting off to a bit of a shaky start in the debut month of December with delayed shipping, the January box arrived without problems.  I didn't realize how excited I really was about this box until I noticed shipping announcement on Twitter.

This month's box does not have that cute Melting Fairy logo sticker on it.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the box is that there are no foil wrappers on the tarts this month!  WOO HOO!!!!  I don't know yet if it's just my box because of my endless whining, or if it's this way in all boxes.  I'm waiting to hear from a couple other people that I know are getting this box, to see if they still have the foil wrappers in theirs.

The next thing I noticed was that there are no extra tarts this time.  I was sad about that but this allowed the chunk tart to survive the trip this time because there was a bit more space in the box.

There is a nice, handwritten note on the back of the info card but we still don't know the vendor's name because it is signed 'The Melting Fairy.'  Ahhhhh, the mystery continues.  She did thank me for the great feedback.  There are also little pink dot stickers on each tart package this time.  I noticed when doing the scent surveys on the website that it asks what color sticker is on the package.  My first box did not have any stickers.  It must be a way of tracking formulas or something.

For those who don't know, The Melting Fairy is a new monthly subscription box of wax tarts.  They are still in their beta test phase and I was contacted to see if I'd like to try the program through a 3-month complimentary subscription, but they are taking subscriptions already.  For $14.50 a month (shipping included) you get to pick five scents from their growing scent list, and you will 2 oz. of wax in each of those scents.  You will also receive a 2 oz. chunk tart in the house blend scent of the month.  That one is a surprise until you open your box and see what you got, and I do believe the chunk scent is the same in all boxes.  They add new scents to their list each month, although I don't see last month's blend on this month's list.  There are also surveys to do on the website, to help give feedback.  And from I've seen, they are indeed paying attention to that feedback.

So anyway, let's dive into the scents because that's what everyone is waiting for anyway, right?  Since the holidays are over and my seasonal scent rules no long apply, I chose some plain ol' random food scents this time.

Mexican Fried Ice Cream (NEW) - 'A rich and buttery ice cream scents with added notes of toasted nuts and cinnamon, blended with sweet marshmallow.'
I don't think I've ever had this scent from any vendor and couldn't tell you what it's supposed to smell like.  This one smells pretty yummy though.  It reminds me of Butter Rum Lifesavers!  Cold scent is pretty strong.  And no foil wrapper!  LOL

Fruit Tea (NEW) - 'Green tea blended with fruity notes of peaches, oranges, and spiced cranberries.'
I had a tea scent in last month's box that I really enjoyed so I decided to try another when I saw this new one.  Ohhhh, it's another good one.  It's like warm spiced orange and cranberry, with soft hints of tea.  This would be a good fall/holiday scent.  Cold scent is pretty strong on this.  I think this is the one I could smell before the box was even opened.
Fairy Land - 'This scent is a sweet blend of cotton candy, bubblegum, and vanilla with fresh notes of apples, pears and lemon drops!'
I'm pretty sure this is a dupe but I can't remember offhand what it would be.  A Lush scent?  Whatever it is, bubble gum is the first note I get.  Bubble gum like the big pink chunks of Bubble Yum from my youth.  I think the pear and vanilla notes come in strongest behind that.  This one is also pretty strong right now on cold throw.

7-Up Pound Cake NEW - 'A warm and delicious blend of sweet pound cake mixed with lemon-lime fizzy soda.'
I've had this scent from a couple different vendors and always enjoy it, and this one is good too.  There is a nice, softly sweet pound cake note, and that lemon-lime twist brightening it up a bit.  Looking forward to melting this one.  Cold scent is a little lighter on this one compared to the others.
Orange Cream Swirl Cake NEW - 'A delicious creamy cake with swirls of sweet orange syrup topped with cream frosting. SO delicious!!'
Love me some cake scents!  Cold scent on this one is VERY light but what I get is a nice sort of orange creamcicle scent wrapped in a sweet yummy cake note.  Hope this one beefs up a bit when melted because it's really light right now.
Mexican Fried Fruity Loops - 'A sweet, rich, and delicious blend of Mexican Fried Ice Cream and Fruity Loops!'

And what we've all been wondering . . . what is the surprise blend this month and what will it look like?!?!  Well here it is!  I had to laugh since Mexican Fried Ice Cream was one of my choices this time.  Last month the blend was two smaller chunks.  This month is a much cleaner looking chunk, left in one bigger piece.  That and the fact that there were no extras in this box have allowed to survive the trip in much finer fashion.  As for the scent, it's pretty equal on the Ice Cream and the Fruity Loops, depending where on the chunk you happen to sniff.  I tried to find a spot that mixes the notes and the Ice Cream part tones down the sickly sweet Fruity Loops, making it more tolerable for me.  This one should be interesting.

That is The Melting Fairy's January box!  I'm really curious now to see what other people get, like if they have the foil wrappers or the colored dot stickers or any extras.  If you get the January box. please let me know!  And if you haven't signed up yet, I really do think it's worth a try.  You get 12 oz. of wax for only $10, and most of that you get to pick yourself.  So far it's been fun for me!

And the mystery of just who The Melting Fairy is continues to grow . . .

    1. Last month they were all white, dye-free. I wonder if that's one of the things they're keeping tabs on?

    1. I will indeed do a Melted post for each of these as I melt them. It is a fun little box! I like that there are new scents added each month so there is something new to pick when we make our choices, or we can still try the scents from previous months. The mystery of what the bonus blend will be is so fun.

    1. LOL - Can't imagine why?! Yeah, the colors are so bright and fun this time. The first box contained only plain white tarts, so I'm thinking they're keeping track of different things like colors vs. plain.
