Melted - BH&G / Iced Mocha Latte

Iced Mocha Latte - [no scent description]

Oh my word, I love this scent.  I'm not really a fan of chocolate scents in home fragrance, but I do like a good coffee scent and the chocolate just works well in this.  That bitter note that is often in coffee scents is not present here.  It's very obviously a coffee scent, but there is enough sweetness and creaminess to really tone it down and soften it.  I do detect the chocolate note, but again the coffee just works so well with it this time.  This is an awesome coffee scent!

I melted two cubes (about .8 oz. worth) in my tea light warmer and had very strong scent that creeped into all areas of the house.  That's the kind of scent I like!

I will be picking up a pack or two more of this one just to have on hand in case the day comes that I can't find it anymore.

Giveaway - Target Dollar Spot Planner Kit (CLOSED)

Target's Dollar Spot can be a wonderful place for stationery items, and planner addicts have been utilizing those inexpensive items for a while already.  Now Target is getting into the planner craze by coming out with cute planner kits!

And I'm giving one away!

This will be a smaller sized planner.  This 3-ring binder is about 9x7 inches.  It is a hard cover, with a slightly metallic gold chevron design on front and back.

Inside is a glossier gold, and the typical snap-ring style binder.

This pack of papers includes the weekly and monthly pages, as well as six divider/tab pages in different colors.  I noticed after I'd bought this and was already home that this pack will not get you a full year of weeks or months.  Looks like you'll get 39 weeks, and 9 months.  Hmm, not sure if I should leave it at that or go get another pack.

You'll also receive this pack of lined paper for your new planner.  There are 80 sheets, with mint green lines and stripe across the tops.  This pack also comes with three pocket dividers, in pink, mint green, and gray.

I'm also including this coordinating pad of sticky notes.  It is mint green and black, and has 100 sheets.  I know planner people like to make 'dashboards' and include sticky pads, so I thought this would be a cute addition to the prize package.

I also now planner people are crazy for page flags, and I was lucky enough to find this pack in the new colors.

AND I found a pack in the previous colors.  Actually, I think these colors work more nicely with your little planner kit than the supposedly coordinating new colors.  So you'll get this pack too.

This planner kit prize package is worth $12.00.
I'll add a couple surprise items to the package too.
*wink*

There are just a couple boring rules for this giveaway.
  • You must be at least 18 years old, or have parent/guardian permission to give me your address if you win.
  • Open to US shipping addresses only.
  • YOU MUST LEAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS THAT I CAN CONTACT YOU AT IF THERE ISN'T ONE CONNECTED TO YOUR PROFILE!  If I can't contact you, you're entry will be eliminated.
  • And finally, simply leave a comment with your opinion on what I should do about the lack of a full year problem that I mentioned earlier in this post.  Leave it as is?  Or buy another pack and have extra dividers?
This giveaway will be open until the morning of Saturday, July 4,  evening of Thursday, July 2, 2015.
I will then choose a winner using Random.org.

Good luck, planner fans!

Haul - Target Dollar Spot New Items!

I've starting to see new Dollar Spot items popping up in haul videos the past few days.  It seems like the hot new thing might be the planner kits.  Although I've admitted defeat on planners, I wanted to check these kits out for myself.  So it was off to Target this morning, in hopes of finding some of the fun new things.

And yes!  I found a bunch of new stuff!

I always feel awkward taking pics in stores, especially when I'm alone, so these next few pics are rather crappy quality because I was rushing.  But anyway, these are a few of the new sticky notes.

Another new design on sticky notes.

The larger, magnetic listpads.  Actually, maybe the floral one in back is not magnetic.  It's wider than the others too.  Again, that's my favorite of the new designs.

Total crap pic, sorry.  I'm not crafty enough to have a need for these but I was tickled by the fact that these are mainly Halloween colors.  These are those tiny clothespins.  I'm not even sure what people use them for but I know they are all the rage right now.

They had A LOT of new notecards but I felt weird trying to dig them all out for pictures.
So let's just take a look at what I did get.

I did find the 3-ring binders for the planner kits.  There were only two, both in this slightly metallic gold chevron design.  I'd seen a different design online that I was hoping to find, but no such luck.  This binder is about 9x7 inches.

They only had a couple packs of the planner pages.  I grabbed one of the weekly/monthly pages.  This pack also comes with six divider pages/tabs, each one a different color.

I also grabbed a pack of the lined paper.  It has mint green lines and stripe across the top of each page.  There are 80 sheets, and the pack also comes with three pocket/divider pages in pink, mint green, and gray.

This isn't for me, but I grabbed one of these mint green and black sticky notepads.  (This is the same as the one in the first crappy pic.)

Spotted a pack of the old page flags and automatically grabbed it because these things are apparently gold among the Dollar Spot hoarders.

And found the NEW page flags!  Grabbed two of these right away.  I don't really have a need for them but again, they're much in demand.  Maybe I'll join a swap community or something.  hehe

And new washi tape?!  I had not seen any new tapes popping up yet in videos.  Well, wait.  I saw new fabric tapes in a video, and some other washi type tape that comes in dispensers, but had not seen any of this familiar washi roll type.  I was so surprised to see this that I grabbed it like a madwoman.  I dug around the bins to find more but this was the only one I could see.  I did see those fabric and dispenser tapes in another area but wasn't interested in them.  I should have at least taken pics.  Oops.

And finally, there are a ton of new notecard designs but I only grabbed this one for now.  I like this set because it's rather generic, so it can be used for almost anything.  There four purple, and four black in one pack, along with the light green envelopes.  Very simple yet cute.

There were a lot of other new things that didn't really interest me, like a lot of tumbler cups and organization containers.  They still have a lot of the summer burlap things like the banners and bags.  Still a bit of the red-white-blue themed things.  Still a lot of the black/metallic things.  But I did not see things like the colored lights and jars that waxy bloggy friend Julie saw at her store, or the colorful pencils or notepads that I'd seen in videos.  I'll be keeping a curious eye on things!

So, a question for you all.
Is there much interest here for some Target Dollar Spot giveaways?
I'm already going to do one with the planner kit, but I was also thinking about maybe doing a notecard giveaway, and a notepad giveaway.  Or maybe a mixed item/same design type thing.
It might be fun, especially later when the fall and holiday things start coming out.
Anyone interested?

Well that's my little haul, and most of this isn't even for me.
Stay tuned for that planner kit giveaway!

Melted - Dessa's Homespun Scents / Banana Nut Bread

Banana Nut Bread - 'Freshly baked and loaded with fresh bananas, brown sugar, nuts and a touch of ginger.'

On cold sniff, this is everything you'd expect a banana nut bread scent to be.  It's rich and moist with banana.  There is the tiniest hint of spice.  Even the nutty note comes through.  You would totally want to eat this.  Once warmed though, I couldn't smell much of anything.

I melted this 1.4 oz. tart in my Glade hot plate warmer and had pretty much no scent.  As it was first melting I could smell the deliciousness, but within minutes it was gone.  I didn't worry about it too much at the time, figured it was one of those more subtle background scents and I'd notice here and there.  Nope, never really did find that yummy scent while it was in the warmer.

Bummer.

Haul - Dessa's Homespun Scents / Fall Scents!

Yes, this is my THIRD order from Dessa's already.  I was satisfied enough with my first two small orders to go ahead and place a larger order, all fall scents.  With her quick TAT, I could have waited till later in the summer to order these but I figured I'd go ahead and do it now.  I'm not going to melt them now.  Oh heck no!  But I wanted them earlier enough to be able to sniff and decide if I wanted to go back for more of anything in particular.  AND I wanted them so I could get this post up early enough to maybe help some of you choose some yummy fall scents.

This is going to be a long, pic heavy post, so let's dive in.

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles – 'Delicious freshly made pumpkin waffles topped with pecans, drizzled with warm maple syrup, and a hint of brown sugar. A B&BW type duplication.'
I think we all know this scent by now.  It's quickly becoming a fall favorite of mine.
Pumpkin Pie – 'A traditional mix of creamy pumpkin puree generously spiced with cinnamon, ginger and cloves baked in a buttery, flaky crust. A down-home treat.'
So good!  A healthy bit of spice in this.  I mainly get the pumpkin and spice right now, not really any crust or bakery note on cold sniff.
Autumn Campfire – 'The essence of fall - cinnamon, cloves, pumpkin pie, warmed apples, gingerbread, hot cider and a touch of marshmallow toasted over a campfire. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
I usually stay away from 'campfire' or 'fireside' scents because I don't like that smoky note.  This one just sounded so interesting though, with all those other notes.  And because it's an original blend, I decided to try it.  I'm getting the apple cider note most, but a bit of that smoke note is lurking.  It's actually quite light on cold sniff.
Caramel Cider Lane – 'Mulled apple cider meets warm gooey caramel and sweet cinnamon. A B&BW “Cider Lane” type duplication.'
I'm not a big cider fan either but decided to try this anyway.  I'm not familiar with the B&BW version so I can't say how true this is, but it smells weird to me right now on cold sniff.  There is a tiny hint of caramel, and I think I smell a bit of the apple, but in now way does it speak "Caramel apple cider!" to me.  This one is weird and I'm curious what it will be like when melted.
Cranberry Orange Cake – 'Orange chiffon cake infused with tart cranberries. A mouth-watering dessert. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
A nice spiced cranberry scent, hint of juicy orange, and hint of cake behind it.
Fall in the Country - 'Crisp apple cider, woodsy notes of oak, cinnamon bark, cloves & hints of wild berries. A B&BW “Leaves” type duplication.'
I'm not familiar with the Leaves scent either.  It's sort of one of those generic fall blends where you can't quite pinpoint anything specific in it.  I do like this though.  There is spice and cider but it's not really just an obvious cider scent.  The notes in here work together to give it a true feeling of fall . . . of wet leaves, and Halloween candy.
Apples & Cinnamon - 'Fresh out of the oven baked apples slices generously topped with spicy ground cinnamon.'
I almost didn't get this because it's such a boring and typical fall scent.  Then decided to go ahead and get it *because* of that.  What better way to kick off the fall melting season?  This one is heavy on the spice.  I don't get much apple on cold sniff.

Caramel Apple Latte – 'Rich brewed coffee is combined with gooey caramel apple. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
I'm only getting a coffee scent on cold sniff.  It's a nice coffee though.

Cranberry Spice – 'Fresh tart cranberries are accented with cinnamon and spice. The perfect traditional holiday scent.'
Ohhh yes, one of my favorite late fall scents.  It is spicy, but not harsh.  The spice warms up the tart and juicy cranberry notes, making it a perfect Thanksgiving scent.  This one rivals the Scentsationals version, which is my absolute favorite.

Apple Pumpkin Streusel – 'Hot piping homemade apple pie blended with Pumpkin Ginger Streusel. Sweet and delicious! A Homespun Original House Blend.'
Wow.  I *REALLY* like this one.  I think the pumpkin is a little stronger than the apple but then it's like "Wait, no," and when you sniff again you think you get the apple more.  Either way, you get the nice spice note and the gentle hints of bakery.  Ohhh, this might be one I need to go back for more of.

Cranberry Woodlands- 'Tart cranberry, black currant, cinnamon bark and musky woods create a warm and cozy scent. A B&BW “Cranberry Woods” type duplication.'
This is nice but it's the prettier type of cranberry scent, the type that is almost perfume-y.  I do get a bit of the woods note, a sort of resin hint, but it's mainly a pretty cranberry scent.  I don't know how true it is to the B&BW version.
Pumpkin Cookie Crunch – 'A super rich pumpkin cookie loaded with caramelized sugar, whipped cream, French vanilla, cardamom, cinnamon, and Vermont maple sugar.'
A yummy cookie scent with hints of maple.  The pumpkin is not a spiced type so you almost lose it in cookie notes, but it is there.  This is a 'gentle' pumpkin scent, probably safe for those who aren't into all the spice of fall scents.
Pumpkin Caramel Drizzle – 'Fresh baked pumpkin pie drizzled with a layer of sticky gooey salted caramel. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
Actually quite similar to the previous scent.  This one has a little more spice but is again, a sort of 'gentle' fall bakery scent.
Pumpkin Ginger Streusel – 'Fresh pumpkin spiced with Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, vanilla, sugar and fresh ginger and topped with a crumbly streusel topping. Super sweet!'
This one is a bit light on cold sniff.  All I'm really able to pick up at the moment is a softly spiced pumkin scent.
Pumpkin Spiced Latte – 'Sit and enjoy a comforting blend of rich dark coffee and pumpkin spices. A delicious aromatic treat for fall.'
Strong coffee note just like the other latte one.  This one has a bit more of the other stuff coming through though.  I get a bit of the spice and some creamy pumpkin, but just a bit.
Sweet Pumpkin Spice – 'Pumpkin baked in simmering spices and sweetened with brown sugar.'
This used to be one of my absolute favorite scents back when I was making soap.  It's a spiced pumpkin scent, but it's a bit sweeter and has a tiny hint of a sort of tang, if that makes any sense.  It's no longer one of my absolute fall scents but I do still enjoy it in a sentimental way.
Pumpkin Cinnamon Donuts – 'Freshly baked pumpkin donuts topped with a generous sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
On the lighter side right now, mainly just a sweet cinnamon scent.
Pumpkin Gingerbread – 'Fresh homemade gingerbread blended with warm pumpkin pie and baked to perfection. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
A nice gingerbread scent, but not getting much of a pumpkin note on cold sniff.  This might go into my winter stash instead of fall stash.
Pumpkin Harvest Chai – 'Creamy vanilla, fresh pumpkin, spicy notes of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg blended with creamy milk.'
One of the creamy pumpkin types, softly spiced to warm it up.  I don't really get a chai vibe from anything in this but it's an awesome pumpkin scent anyway.
Farmhouse – 'Hot apple cider delicately layered with zesty mandarin orange slices, sprinkled with warm clove and spices, simmered to perfection. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
Another that I wanted to try as a way to get beyond just pumpkin and apples in fall, and because it is another original blend.  The orange hits you first, followed by soft spice.  There is a hint of that zest note that seems to be a part of all the Dessa's orange scents.  This almost leans more towards Christmas to me.
Caramel Apples – 'Freshly picked crisp apples dipped in a thick, buttery gooey caramel. Rich and delicious.'
BH&G has my absolute favorite caramel apple scent, and this does not even come close.  This uses a salty caramel, and that's coming through stronger than the apples.  I might pass this on to someone else.
Caramel Apple Pie - 'Hot baked apple pie slathered with rich and buttery caramel sauce.'
This one is quite nice though.  I get the apple notes easily in this one, and the caramel is sweeter and creamier.  There is a nice hint of warm bakery behind it all.
Harvest Festival – 'The essence of the autumn harvest season, juicy red apples, tart cranberries and warm cinnamon leaf. A B&BW “Harvest Gathering” type duplication.'
A nice warm, softly spiced scent where I can't tell if the apples or cranberries are stronger.  It's a lovely, even mix.
Grandma’s Kitchen – 'Fresh baked apple slices generously topped with cinnamon sugar, and drizzled with caramel. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
Mmm, I like!  This is better than the Apples & Cinnamon, and better than the Caramel Apples.  The caramel is subtle enough to allow this to still be a spiced apple scent.
This was the 24-pk sampler option that I ordered.  It costs $40, plus $8.50 shipping.  You pick your own scents from anything on her scent list.  I weighed each tart and they are a consistent 1.4 oz. each.
I was so happy to see four freebies included with my order, in their own little 'Thank You' bag.

Cinnamon Garland - 'Classic Christmas - crisp fresh bayberry infused with spicy ground cinnamon. So warm and inviting. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
Whoa.  I sniffed this expecting a spicy cinnamon scent and was almost choked by what my brain first registered as mens cologne.  LOL!  Is bayberry common in mens scents?  Because that's the only thing I can think of that it might be.  Okay so after that shock, I finally found a tiny hint of the familiar cinnmamon, but no, too little too late.  I don't like this scent and it doesn't make me think of Christmas at all.  I can see how others, who maybe are bayberry fans, would find this festive, so I will pass this on to someone like that.

Holiday Eggnog – 'A favorite holiday tradition. You will want to drink this. Rich and indulgent, creamy concoction blended with rum and dusted with nutmeg. Cheers!'
Ohhhhhhh.Em.Gee.  I love this one.  This is the type of eggnog scent I prefer!  It's rich and warm and creamy and has that sort of 'sour' note that I always associate with eggnog.  This will probably go on my Go Back For More list!
Country Fair Jamboree – 'All of your favorite country fair treats blended together – a jamboree of sweet and salty country kettle corn, gooey buttery caramel apples and sweet cotton candy. A Homespun Original House Blend.'
Love the grubby tarts!  I was leery when I saw the description of this scent.  The salty caramel and the pop corn instantly put me on guard.  I was surprised though.  The apples and a *sweet* caramel are the first notes I notice.  That salty popcorn note is lurking in the back though, so I guess we'll see what comes out when I melt it.
Sugared Cranberries - 'Tangy cranberries are coated with sweet sugary goodness.'
And the last of the extras, one of the super cute mason jars!  This is the sweet and pretty type of cranberry scent that I don't prefer.  This is almost like a Kool Aid or candy type scent, very sweet, and very juicy.  I might pass this on to someone else.  It's good and strong, just not my type.

And that is my fall haul from Dessa's Homespun Scents.  As always, ordering was hassle free because she is one of the rare vendors who stays open and has ready to ship stock.  Her TAT is fast too.  I ordered on June 17 (Wednesday morning) and received it June 22 (Monday).  I am very pleased with this order so far, and with this vendor in general.

Have you ordered from Dessa's yet?!
Did you seen any fall scents you're considering trying?
