Band of Bloggers - July 2017 / Vol. 19

As mid-summer approaches, my mind drifts to vacation times, getaways or mini excursions out and about. One tank trips. Parks to explore.

Do you take a summer vacation or do small getaways? What do you have planned? If not, what would be your ideal vacation or retreat? What are your favorite local haunts? Give us some places to check out!
It seems we do less and less each year, and that's a bummer. We've never been ones for summer vacations but at least we used to get out and go fishing or stop by a farmers market or something. This summer will be all about getting the barn redone so I doubt there will be any trips for us. However, Casey's trip to Colorado has me really wanting to revisit the Milwaukee Zoo and The Domes (also in Milwaukee). Both of these are places we always took class trips to way back in school. Hubby and I dragged the boys to the zoo many years ago, but it's been forever since I've been back to The Domes. I'd also *love* to go back to the Bristol RenFaire!

I am not going to lie.... as summer starts revving up... I am catching myself not only daydreaming about vacation but also fall scents. I am sure it may be too early for some and others melt fall scents year 'round, but I must ask... where are you planning to order your fall smell goods from? It can be vendor wax, candles, bath and body or perfumes.  Just spill!
As you may or may not know, I am The Fall Slut. Oh my gosh, I love all things fall! I tend to go way overboard when it comes to fall scents in wax. I'm trying to scale things back a bit this year though. I still have a ton left over from last fall, so I really don't need much. I already have my order placed from Sweet Fixations for my absolute must-haves. Other than that, I'm hoping to just buy 'the big three' from Walmart (Mainstays, Scentsationals, Better Homes & Gardens) when their fall scents come out. I'm debating a small order from Dessa's but I won't be heartbroken this year if I don't get any from her. It's been quite nice stepping back from wax blogging!

  1. The Ren Faire?! You should gooooo!!! There is one in Orlando coming up in December this year that I want to check out. I hope you go and visit the zoo and Dome too. Maybe those baby steps will bolster you into making other plans too. Get bit by the travel bug. <3

Is it a Thankful Harvest the good one? I think I have one clamshell left.

    1. We went to the Ren Faire once, many years ago. It was SO ungodly hot that day though, we were miserable, and didn't really know what to expect from a RenFaire anyway, so I don't think any of us enjoyed it like we could have. The joust show was neat though!

Yep, A Thankful Harvest is the good one. I'm not sure if I have any left. Doh! I must though, because I can't imagine letting myself run out.

  2. I love local events like farmer's markets and we have a pretty cool Ren Faire nearby every September.
I always end up getting some fall wax from Walmart too; they have great fall scents!

    1. We have plenty of farmers markets to choose from but we just never go, and I don't know why. Lazy, I guess.

I'm really anxious to see what Walmart will have for fall scents this year! Getting closer!

  3. Oh Wal-Mart always has some of the best fall scents! I can't wait to see what they have this year. I was pretty impressed with pumpkin marshmallow cream and I believe it was warm pumpkin cookies.. or something of that nature. Either way it's always a nice selection!

    1. A Thankful Harvest has been one of my absolute favorite scents from Walmart for the past several years. I hope it returns, again. I'm excited to be able to allow myself to buy a bunch of the different scents this year since I've phased out of indie wax so much. Other years I've looked and sniffed and done info posts, but limited what I actually bought. Not this year!

  4. Is it safe for a summer lover to apply peer pressure here? We went to the Columbus Zoo last week, hadn't been in 30 years and rekindled some love. So many cool habitats and really up-close with-animals-type features, like a Kangaroo walkabout. Put on your walking shoes, a not too hot day and go, go, go!
The Domes Conservatory looks special too, my family and friends are really into botanical gardens, landscaping. I go to one at least once a year, but twice in different seasons is better for variety.
I'd imagine your autumns are spectacular but the winters must feel really long. Summer excursions could provide a boost to get you through, although the Domes could be an interesting winter day, good blog content for the winter bleakness.

A Thankful Harvest was one of my few Walmart wax purchases last year, I enjoyed it, but remember it as a little too foodie for my taste. This reminds me I got some summer Walmart clams, I've yet to melt. Guess I should get on that soon, I hear fall's on its way;)

    1. It's not as easy as just go, go, go. My schedule puts a kink in many things since I work every other weekend.

I saw yesterday that fall scents are starting to show up at my Walmart. YAY! I can't wait to see the full release!
